The six young people from the Kennington Prince’s Trust attended the masterclass at Fitzroy Place, Bakkavor’s headquarters in London, organised to help celebrate the company’s 30th Birthday.
Bakkavor’s head development chef Jason Elvin led the session, which included guidance on food health and safety. It also covered how to crack an egg easily, tempering chocolate and making a chocolate ganache with the perfect shine.
New skills and training
The young people were part of the Fairbridge programme, run by the Prince’s Trust, which provided 16 to 25-year olds with opportunities to learn new skills and undertake training.
The attendees each baked a cake in the shape of each letter of the manufacturer's name.
Elvin said, “Cooking is a great way to be creative, hone and learn new skills and by working as a team, you can create something magical before your very eyes.
“We had a great day and we are delighted to give more young people a taste of a career in food development.”
Plans are underway between Bakkavor and the Prince’s Trust to host further sessions over the coming months.
