Nestlé has created 150 jobs at its Hatton coffee capsule factory in Derbyshire as part of ambitious expansion plans there.

The move dovetailed with the global food giant’s plans to create a UK centre of excellence for coffee, a spokeswoman for the company told FoodManufacture.co.uk.

The company has invested millions of pounds in the Hatton plant in the past few years and claimed the expanded facility would play host to a four-year apprenticeship in coffee manufacturing for young people.

As a result, the site offers considerable employment opportunities to young people.

Employment opportunities

In November last year, Nestlé UK and Ireland announced it would create 1,900 employment opportunities for young people over the next three years, including 300 paid work experience placements.

More than 600 employment opportunities would be available each year, it said, from operators on the factory floor to field sales assistants and business management.

The programme is part of Nestlé’s European Youth Employment Initiative which will help 20,000 people across Europe under the age of 30 find employment. The scheme aims to offer 10,000 jobs and 10,000 apprentice positions and traineeships by 2016.
