Morrisons has launched an investigation after two people found metal “pins” in green beans bought from its stores.

The retailer recalled its 170g ‘Trimmed Beans’ on April 20, after it was revealed they might contain small pieces of metal, according to Food Standards Agency (FSA). The authorities were alerted after shoppers – almost 220 miles apart – found the metal shards.

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: “We have been made aware of two incidents involving metal being found in two packets of green beans.

“The health and safety of our customers is our top priority, so as a precaution, we are recalling the products and are continuing with our investigation. The relevant authorities have been informed and we are also talking to the two customers.”

‘Metal ‘pins’’

But, images on Facebook appeared to show metal “pins”​ in the middle of the green beans (see below).

One customer from Glasgow revealed she found “dozens of them”​ in the pack of beans.

Another customer from Manchester claimed Morrisons hadn’t removed the green beans from its shelves when she returned.

She told FoodManufacture.co.uk that she would avoid buying green beans from Morrisons in the future.

The FSA advised customers that bought the green beans to not eat them, and return them to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

‘Recalling the above product’

An FSA statement stated: “Morrisons is recalling the above product from its stores. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

Morrisons said it was recalling Trimmed Beans with display dates until April 22, 23 and 24.

A Morrisons statement apologised for the inconvenience the contamination might have caused, and assured customers of its commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
