In August 2016, the Food Manufacture Group conducted its inaugural Supply chain and logistics survey on its user base of UK food and drink manufacturing professionals. The aim of the survey, compiled in association with Hughenden Consulting, was to gauge views on changing food and drink supply chain priorities – from the use of outsourced logistics and warehousing to the biggest supply chain challenges and changing customer needs.
Food Manufacture collated over 220 survey responses on topics such as costs per case, multichannel/’omnichannel’ sales, biggest supply chain challenges, challenges in investment, most efficient foodservice operators and more.
Key findings from the survey:
- 71% of respondents agreed that their companies were adapting supply chains for more multichannel/’omnichannel’ sales. Highlighting this, a majority of 64% respondents confirmed that their company’s supply chain cost per case/pallet delivered have increased over the past year
- Survey respondents also rated McDonalds, Bidvest Food Group and Brakes as the top three foodservice operators operating the most efficient supply chains
- The top three biggest supply chain needs were reduction in lead-times, product and ingredient traceability and price reduction. On the other hand, reduction in packaging and increased IT integration were the least important needs to our respondents
