French cheese has been recalled due to contamination with potentially deadly food poisoning bug Listeria monocytogenes (Lm).

Fromagerie Beillevaire UK has recalled a batch of its Brie de Meaux à la Truffe because high levels of the bacterium were found in the product. The use by date was January 22 2016.

Listeriosis, the illness associated with Lm, is relatively rare but causes more deaths from food poisoning in the UK than any other foodborne bugs, according to the Food Standards Agency.

‘Fever or headaches’

“Customers who have consumed the product should seek medical advice and mention this recall notice if suffering from any of the following symptoms: fever or headaches,” the recall notice said.

“Pregnant women, the elderly and people who suffer from immune deficiency must be especially cautious and seek immediate medical advice should they develop any of the symptoms mentioned above.

“These symptoms can be related to listeria.”

Poundland After Dinner Mints

Last week Poundland withdrew After Dinner Mints because the product contained milk, which was not mentioned in the ingredients list on the packaging.

The 40g packs of After Dinner Mints, Mint Cream Centre Dark Chocolates, posed a health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Sainsbury also recalled its Sainsbury’s Mango Chutney because a small number of jars were incorrectly packaged and may contain lime pickle.

Therefore the product may contain mustard seeds, which endangered anyone with an allergy to mustard. The 370g jars had a best before date of October 2017.

Food and drink manufacturers have been warned to beware recalls after a spate of highprofile cases involving Asda and other leading supermarkets.

Meanwhile, law firm Roythornes warned food and drink manufacturers to beware recalls after a spate of product recalls last month.
