A sparkling mango drink that had fermented in the bottle and vegetable patties that may contain fish lead a raft of food and drink recalls recently.

A G Barr recalled four batches of its Rubicon sparkling mango soft drink, after yeast fermentation occurred in some of the bottles.

The fermentation may cause the bottles to burst, as well as spoiling the products – making them unsuitable for human consumption.

The recall applied to two litre bottles of the drink with ‘best before’ dates of end of February 2017 and end of March 2017 and batch code 6149, 6150, 6176 and 6177.

Undeclared allergens were the cause of a number of other food recalls, including products from Island Delight, Asda and Waitrose.

Manufacturing error

A manufacturing error lead to a recall of Island Delight’s vegetable short crust patties, where some packets may contain its salt fish short crust patties instead.

Food Safety Conference

There's still time to book your place at Food Manufacture’s one-day safety conference at etc.venues, Prospero House, London on Thursday October 13.

This meant the products would have the incorrect allergen information on the packaging.

Batch 384 of the vegetable short crust patties with a 140g pack size and a ‘use by’ date of October 12 2016 were affected by the recall.

Waitrose Lovelife peanuts and raisins were also recalled due to undeclared allergens, as they contained almonds, brazil nuts, cashews and walnuts that were not mentioned on the label.

This made the product a possible health risk to anyone who had an allergy to these nuts. The recall applied to products with a pack size of 270g and had a ‘best before’ date of March 2017.

Not declared

Asda Tiger sausage rolls six packs were recalled, after it was found that milk in the product was not declared on the packaging. All date codes were affected by the recall.

Meanwhile, Hilltop Honey has recalled five batches of its raw British creamed honey on a precautionary basis, after small pieces of metal were found in the product.

The pieces of metal were caused by a manufacturing fault in a machine that produces the honey, according to Hilltop.

Batches with an expiry dates of 16/04/2017, 29/05/2018, 11/06/2018, 14/06/2018 and 18/06/2018 were all included in the recall.
