Key insights into the €14bn European snacks market will be on offer in the Food Manufacture Group’s free, one-hour webinar, to take place at 3pm on Thursday June 15, courtesy of the European Snacks Association (ESA) and other leading industry experts.

ESA president Sebastian Emig will update the webinar audience on what credentials consumers look for from food ingredients, in terms of ethical and sustainable sourcing. A second theme of his presentation will be the sector’s progress in delivering healthy reformulation.

The two other speakers taking part in the free webinar, sponsored by the Almond Board of California (ABC) will be Lu Ann Williams, director of innovation at Innova Market Insights and Danielle Veenstra, ABC’s senior sustainability specialist.

Hot snacking trends

Williams will predict the hot snacking trends for 2017 and beyond.

Veenstra’s presentation will explain how years of research and innovation have enabled the almond industry to implement sustainable growing practices. Her presentation will profile how growers are ensuring they leave the land to future generations while also catering to the demands of increasingly discerning consumers.

Meanwhile, in 2014 the retail value of the savoury snacks market in Europe amounted to about €14bn, with nearly 1.85Mt of savoury snack products purchased.

UK is Europe’s largest market for savoury snacks

The UK is Europe’s largest market for savoury snacks, with sales estimated at £3.23bn (€4.08bn). Snack-hungry Britons are among the Europe’s biggest purchasers per capita of potato chips / crisps, savoury snacks and snack nuts.

But consumers in the Netherlands, Norway and Spain purchase more chips / crisps, savoury snacks and snack nuts per capita than UK consumers.

Consumption of savoury snacks across Europe varies from country to country but on average around 3.6kg are purchased per year per capita. An infographic about snack consumption appears below.
