The versatility of plant-based proteins was a feature at this year’s Health Ingredients Europe (HiE), which took place in Frankfurt from November 30 to December 1.

Visitors to Roquette’s ‘Creatilicious bar’ were offered pancakes, vegan bars and gluten-free crunchy bites – all made with the company’s Nutralys pea protein, which it claimed contributed to the maintenance of muscle mass.

Other plant-based ingredients at its stand included sorbitol Neosorb, maltitol SweetPearl, and xylitol Xylisorb, each of which are suitable for sweetening teeth-friendly confectionery.

Directly compressible polyols

Also available at the show were Roquette’s Xtab polyols, a range of directly compressible polyols that it claimed offered multiple technological benefits and texture possibilities for sugar-free confectionery tablets.

The company said its “clear-cut, natural-origin” ingredients opened up possibilities in a range of categories, from sports and weight management food products, to healthy sweets.
