Typhoo commits to sustainable tea partnership

Tea boss: Somnath Saha spoke exclusively to Food Manufacture earlier this year

The UK’s second largest tea manufacturer has pledged to improve the sustainability of tea production and the lives of tea workers throughout the supply chain.

Typhoo Tea has lent its support to the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), a not-for-profit organisation that aims to achieve lasting positive change in the tea sector.

The Wirral-based firm claimed to be one of the first tea companies to send its buyers to monitor aspects of life across its tea estates.

‘Improve the lives of tea workers’

“ETP works across the supply chain with external partners to improve the lives of tea workers, farmers and communities,” said Typhoo Tea chief executive Somnath Saha.

“We’re looking forward to a broader partnership with it to ensure standards of living, nutrition and gender equality are improved.”
