Arson attack causes food factory blaze
The fire at fast food chain Mahmoods’ processing facility on Duncombe Street, Bradford, was battled by fire crews from Fairweather Green, Bradford, Shipley, Odsal and Idle stations at 11pm last Wednesday (November 9).
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service sent six fire engines and one aerial platform to combat the blaze.
Deployed against the fire were teams equipped with water jets, breathing apparatus and ventilation systems.
Watch commander Michael Smith, of Fairweather Green Fire Station, said crews were at the scene for about five hours.
“The fire had gone through the roof in the first few minutes that we had arrived,” said Smith. “The flames started coming through the roof.”
About half of the unit was on fire and destroyed the roof. It is believed the blaze started in the storage area of the building. No one was injured in the fire.
Marmoods took to Facebook to inform its followers of the news of the fire.
A police spokesman said that enquiries were still in their early stages and called for any witnesses to come forward.
Meanwhile, Teams from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue were called to a fire at Tangerine Confectionery’s factory in York last month.
Fire crews were called to the fire at an industrial estate on Low Poppleton Lane at 8:09pm on Monday 31 October.
