Two of the UK’s largest food manufacturers – 2 Sisters Food Group and Premier Foods – have revealed how winning a Food Manufacture Excellence Award (FMEA) – the Oscars of the food and drink manufacturing sector – have boosted their businesses over the past year. And there’s still time to win your own shiny new Oscar, with three days still left to submit your free online entry.

2 Sisters’ contribution to combating campylobacter food poisoning netted the group the Judges’ Star performer of the year trophy.

Its initiative to tackle campylobacter – Britain’s single biggest cause of food poisoning – was the unanimous choice of the FMEA awards independent judging panel, led by chair of the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Paul Wilkinson. The company was praised for prioritising campylobacter control and offering strong leadership in the fresh poultry sector.

2 Sisters technical projects manager

2 Sisters’ technical projects manager Kevin Akehurst said that the award helped the manufacturer win wider industry recognition for its leadership on campylobacter.

“We were overwhelmed to receive this prestigious award; it’s recognition of this sort that makes all the time and effort put into the project worthwhile,” Akehurst told FoodManufacture.co.uk.

“Industry recognition of our efforts following the award certainly helped with third-party buy-in when developing further interventions.”

Premier Foods Sweet Treats

Premier Foods Sweet Treats’s md Graham Hunter said the manufacturer was “exceedingly proud” to have won Bakery Manufacturer of the Year at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards in 2015 for Mr Kipling.

“It was a great achievement for all my colleagues who work tirelessly behind the scenes, and gave them a big boost and a real sense of pride,” said Hunter.

The overall award – Food Manufacture Company of the Year – was claimed by Moy Park after it won the the Meat and Poultry Manufacturing Company of the Year trophy.

So, could you match the achievement of Moy Park, 2 Sisters Food Group and Premier Foods? This is your opportunity to find out, with three days left before entries for the FMEAs 2016 close on Friday July 29.
