Basmati rice move

Over the past few years recognition of the distinct quality of basmati rice has grown among consumers and manufacturers. Now, Satnam Overseas, producer of Kohinoor branded basmati rice, plans to spend £3m on a facility in Felixstowe, from where it hopes to grow its current 10% share of Europe's basmati rice market.

Only long grain rice grown in specific areas of the Indo Gangetic Plains can use the name basmati as they have unique eating quality and aroma. Satnam will import rice through Felixstowe, process it and then redistribute it around Europe.
