Bakkavor to recruit 310 staff after ‘increased demand’

Bakkavor in 310 new staff recruitment drive

Ready meals specialist Bakkavor is recruiting 310 people for factory production and management roles in Lincolnshire, after “increased demand from its customers”, the manufacturer revealed today (November 28).

The firm planned to recruit 100 new staff at its Bakkavor Desserts site in Newark, 60 staff at its Bakkavor’s Freshcook site in Spalding and 150 people at Bakkavor Pizza in Holbeach.

Bakkavor Group human resources director Pippa Greenslade said: “Now is a really exciting time for Bakkavor, as we continue to grow from strength-to-strength and this is demonstrated by the sheer scale of our recruitment drive.

“The diverse range of roles we have available provides people all around the country with a great opportunity to work in the fast-moving and exciting fresh prepared foods industry. We have a wide variety of roles on offer and we look forward to welcoming new people to our team.”

The recruitment drive meant that Bakkavor has advertised for more than 1,500 new members of staff since November 2015.

Bakkavor Desserts currently employs more than 1,700 staff, and began its recruitment drive in November 2015, the company said. The site manufactures 80M éclairs, 40M egg custards and 20M bowl trifles each year.

Bakkavor’s Freshcook supplies exclusively Marks & Spencer. It employs 600 people, and had made over 30M ‘Dine In’ meals for M&S, since the launch of the promotion.

More than 800 people are employed at Bakkavor Pizza Holbeach, which manufactures own-label pizzas for retailers including Sainsbury, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrisons. It also makes Pizza Express’s retail pizzas.

Meanwhile, the ready meal firm advertised for 40 soups and sauces staff in September. The full-time roles were being recruited at Bakkavor’s Freshcook site. Roles were being recruited for cooking operatives, filling operatives, spice room operatives and hygiene and dispatch roles.
