Motörhead fans petition to rechristen Jack Daniels and Coke ‘Lemmy’
Ian Fraser ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister died on December 28 2015 from cancer aged 70, causing rock fans to call for his favourite drink to be renamed after him.
The petition on Change.org has been signed by 43,661 supporters and needs 6,339 more backers to reach its target of 50,000.
The organiser of the petition wrote on the site: “A Jack Daniels and Coke will forever be associated with Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister, the iconic founder of Motorhead. To celebrate and remember one of rock and roll's true legends, I petition everyone to henceforth and hereafter refer to the combination of Jack Daniels Whiskey and Coca-Cola as a ‘Lemmy’.”
‘Drunk a bottle a day’
Lemmy was alleged to have drunk a bottle of Jack Daniels a day since he was 30.
He switched from Jack Daniels and Coke to vodka and orange juice in his later years to help with his diabetes.
Lemmy was lead singer, bassist and song writer for Motörhead, whose hits included Ace of Spades.
Born in the Burslem area of Stoke-on-Trent, Lemmy was also a former member of Hawkwind and contributed songs to various other rock artists, including Ozzy Osbourne.
