A man was arrested on suspicion of terror-related offences at Moy Park’s poultry factory in Ashbourne, Derbyshire on December 12.

The man was held in the factory overnight, it was understood.

Moy Park declined to comment on the arrest at this time. A spokeswoman for the poultry firm told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “This is a police matter and it would be inappropriate to make comment.”

Five other people were arrested on similar suspected offences, North East Counter Terrorism Unit confirmed. Four men from Derby, aged 22, 27, 35 and 36, a 27-year-old man from Burton-upon-Trent and a 32-year-old woman from London were arrested in total.

‘Six people’

A North East Counter Terrorism statement said: “The six people are currently in police custody.”

“This is an ongoing investigation led by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit supported by local officers from Derbyshire, Staffordshire and the Metropolitan Police. We would ask people to remain alert and vigilant but not to be alarmed and we are grateful for the assistance, support and understanding of people locally.”

The arrests were made under terrorism legislation, so the police had 48 hours to charge the suspects, release them, or apply for a warrant to detain them further.

“Communities defeat terrorism. We depend on information from the public, who can be our eyes and ears in our efforts to keep us all safe,” North East Counter Terrorism said.
