Salmonella sparks Sainsbury stir-fry recall

Salmonella sparked a recall of Sainsbury’s stir-fry products

Sainsbury recalled a number of its stir-fry products last week, after testing found the possible presence of salmonella in them.

The recall applied to seven of the retailer’s products, including its 300g Oriental Style Vegetable Stir Fry and 350g Mushroom Stir Fry. See the full list of recalls bellow.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Consumers who had bought the product were advised not to eat them and return purchases to their nearest Sainsbury’s store for a full refund.

Great Northern Sandwich Co was also forced to recall a number of its products last week.

Blue discolouration

A number of the sandwich maker’s chicken products were found to have a blue discolouration on the meat, indicating they might be unfit for human consumption.

The sandwiches were sold in Spar and GNS convenience stores nationwide. Products in the recall included Spar & Honest Crust chicken/stuffing barm (bread roll), Spar & Honest Crust chicken salad sandwich and GNS triple BLT/chicken salad/ham and cheese sandwich.

All use-by dates up to and including February 10 were affected. A full list of the recalled products are given below.

The retailer advised anyone who had bought the products to return them to the store they were purchased from to receive a full refund.

Undeclared allergens were the cause of a recall of Flynn’s Fine Foods’s Limerick cooked ham. The recall applied to all pack sizes and all use-by dates.

Potential health risk

The product contained milk and wheat (gluten), making it a potential health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to those ingredients.

Consumers with an allergy or intolerance to these ingredients were advised to return the products to where they were bought from to receive a full refund.

Meanwhile, a criminal investigation has been launched over an alleged “tampering incident”, after a battery was found inside a Co-op hollow chocolate bunny.

The Co-op recalled 3,000 of its own-label milk chocolate Easter bunny figures after the National Crime Agency (NCA), Nottinghamshire Police and the Food Standards Agency launched the investigation.
