Pumpkin and carrot extracts added to colouring range

Colouring foods: WFSI’s range is made from a variety of fruit and vegetable extracts

A pumpkin extract and a special carrot variety are the two new additions to a range of natural colouring foods from Wild Flavors & Specialty Ingredients (WFSI), a division of Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).

The new pumpkin-based product joins a range of yellow colour shades, which also includes safflower, curcuma and yellow carrot. Combined with spirulina, it can be used to create varying shades of green.

The carrot extract includes the natural colouring component lycopene, for deep yellow-orange shades.

Both products are ideal for developing strong colours and different shades of yellow, orange and green in food applications, WFSI said.

Wider colour portfolio

The company’s wider colour portfolio includes the Rainbow Range, which can be used in a variety of products including: water-soluble ingredients for beverages; gelatin articles and hard caramels; oil-soluble options for chocolate waffles; and instant beverage powders.

Meanwhile, an algal oil designed for a wide variety of food products is the latest addition to ADM’s omega-3 product line.

Onavita DHA algal oil provides vegan and allergen-free labelling options for food, beverage and supplement developers, said the company.
