A blaze a Lincolnshire tea processing plant is the latest in a string conflagrations to have plagued food and drink manufacturers this summer.

Fire crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the fire at the processing site on the Hadley road industrial estate in Sleaford on Tuesday (September 13).

Fire fighters arrived at the scene at 9:47am to tackle the fire which originated in a tea drying machine at the factory, according to the rescue service.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames using one hose reel – see tweet below. No one was injured in the incident.

The tea fire followed a blaze at a meat wholesaler in Suffolk last week (September 6), after a freezer caught alight and the blaze quickly spread throughout the building.

17 fire engines

Up 17 fire engines attended the fire at Bramfield Meats near Halesworth, as well as two water tankers and an aerial platform. Fire crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue took about four hours to put out the flames.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue area commander Ian Bowell said the crews had worked really hard and had managed to save a majority of the building.

Meanwhile, seven fire crews battled a blaze at a coffee factory in Banbury, Oxfordshire, last month. The fire at Jacobs Douwe Egberts’ factory started in one of the bean roasters.

Ginsters’ Cornwall factory was also the scene of a blaze, after a fire was discovered in the building’s chimney.
