A fire at a food manufacturing site in Peterborough was battled by fire fighters in the early hours of Monday morning (July 25).

The blaze at Dogsthorpe Flour Mill,  Dogsthorpe, near Peterborough broke out on the first floor of the factory and involved a flour roller.

The fire was attended by Crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Peterborough Volunteers fire and rescue services.

Fire crews were called to the site at 12:01 am. Fire fighters used hose reel and 15 carbon dioxide extinguishers to put out the fire. The crews returned to their stations by 2:35 am.

Smoke was understood to have affected three floors of the building.

Fire investigators are probing what sparked the fire. But Cambridgeshire Police told FoodManufacture.co.uk it was not investigated the fire, as the cause was accidental.

Meanwhile, 10 fire engines were needed to fight a blaze at 2 Sisters Food Group’s factory​ in Thetford, Norfolk this month (Sunday, July 17). The blaze led to the evacuation of 270 staff from the building.
