Bakery plant worth millions creates 30 jobs
The factory, which the firm claims involved a multi-million pound investment, will be used to bake bread, cakes and morning goods.
In addition to new ovens and the bread and morning goods plant, the company has splashed out on a wrapping line at the site.
The facility adds to the business’ existing pie production at its headquarters in Clayton le Moors, near Accrington, also in Lancashire. It makes a range of pies, including Pepper Steak Pie and Potato and Meat Pie, alongside sandwiches and cakes such as cheesecakes, jam slices and scones.
‘Too big for one site’
“We were getting too big for one site and to meet the future potential of the business,” said md Barry Thomas. “While other companies in the sector have been finding life difficult, we are still expanding.
“Sales have been growing considerably and we have confidence in the business that it will grow further to take up the extra capacity. Expanding into a second unit will allow us to increase that capacity and also widen our range of products, as well as increasing production in the existing factory.”
Major football clubs
Clayton Park Bakery, which was formed in 1995, already supplies pies to major football clubs, including Blackburn Rovers; Liverpool and Everton. It has now clinched a contract to supply bread products to Newcastle United’s home ground St James’ Park from the Huncoat site.
The bakery now employs more than 100 people and has a customer base across the north of England, including Spar UK; Booths supermarkets; petrol forecourts; cafes; and corner shops.
Blackburn Rovers star David Dunn opened the Huncoat site at the New House Road industrial estate.
