Leading food producer Samworth Brothers has acquired The Real Wrap Co for an undisclosed fee, Food Manufacture can reveal.

The Real Wrap Co was co-founded by Phillippe Gill and Jason Howell in 2010, with Samworth Brothers purchasing a minority stake in the business in 2023.

On 17 April, a spokesperson for Samworth Brothers confirmed to Food Manufacture that it had purchased the remaining shares, and noted that its chief operations officer Paul Davey would continue to sit on The Real Wrap Co board.

Meanwhile, Gill and Howell and the rest of the existing management team will remain in their roles following the acquisition.

The Real Wrap Co produces a wide range of sandwiches, wraps and salads, and is based in Avonmouth, Bristol.

According to the firm’s financial results for the year ended 31 March 2023, it posted a pre-tax profit of £136k, with a turnover of £27.5m.

Meanwhile, Samworth Brothers manufactures a wide variety of food to go products, owning brands including Ginsters, West Cornwall Pasty Co, Soreen and Urban Eat.

Reflecting on the deal, group chief executive Hugo Mahoney said: "Food to go has been a tremendous success story for Samworth Brothers in recent years, and we believe the category is well-positioned for growth. The Real Wrap Co is a dynamic, innovative young company that shares our values and focus on quality foods. The Real Wrap Co has great future potential, and the capability and scale of Samworth Brothers will help support further development for The Real Wrap Co business.”

Gill and Howell added: “We are really excited about developing The Real Wrap Co business in the coming years and we are delighted to be supported by a like-minded partner in Samworth Brothers, to help us continue to do an amazing job for our customers, our people and our planet.”
