Teatime investment pays off
In our most recent ‘Me & My Factory’ feature we learnt what how investment had helped Taylors of Harrogate increase its market share during our exclusive tour of its site with factory manager John Hennighan.
Taylors of Harrogate, which manufacturers Yorkshire Tea, has grown to 16% of the market – just behind Unilever’s PG Tips and Tata’s Tetley brands.
Hennington, who started his career with Associated Dairies aged 16, revealed the challenges of producing tea and coffee at the same site.
The avid poker player also said operating in the north of England – where water is softer – meant the business could blend tea to different water types. A practice is has done since 1882 and many firm’s couldn’t because they only had access to harder southern water.
