Quorn’s factory manager a busy bee
Steven Finn has been involved in the manufacture of Quorn since it was produced at ICI’s biological product plant in 1991.
Now, he oversees a team of more than 100 had its 5,000m2 Billingham production facility in Cleveland.
A beekeeper in his spare time, Finn has been busy improving the site in recent years.
The firm finished work on a new £30M fermenter to boost output by 14,000t in July and has cut electricity usage by 30% and steam and water by 50% over the past decade.
It has installed two new heat exchangers to recover heat from its fermenters, saving £300,000 a year, Finn claimed.
You can listen to Finn explain the site’s efficiency schemes and further investment plans in our podcast.
